Our baby boy was 5 weeks early & we had to have an emergency Caesarean (a spinal block) but everything is wonderful now.
The story....I hadn't felt him move much over night so we thought we better go & get things checked out. We found out that he had the cord wrapped around his neck 3 times!
After the initial shock of this we got things together & talked to the obstetrician about what we do now. We were monitored on a CTG for 2 days & nights but we weren't happy with the readings & I still hadn't felt much movement. So after another ultrasound we decided it was best to get this baby out.
He was perfect! The doctors wanted to put him in a humidity crib, tube him with formula & give him a glucose drip........ We had other ideas.
We were lucky enough to have a wonderful midwife on duty that night that was on the same wavelength as us. He spent the night on my chest so he could regulate his body temperature and every few hours he would work his way over for a drink. It really was the most amazing experience of our lives! To think what he had been through and was still able to do that.
The next morning the doctor came in and said " Well you have not done anything I have told you to do but well done and you can take him back to your room!!!"
Since then, Harry was treated much the same as a full term baby and the nurses and doctors couldn't believe how well he was doing.
After 6 days we came home and he has been the most amazing little boy. We truly believe the special bonding we had together that first night has allowed him to settle in to our lives almost seamlessly as he is feeding well and regularly.
We can't thank you enough for what you taught us at the calmbirth® course. Even though we weren't able to experience a natural birth all the tools you taught us were invaluable.
Those two days and nights in hospital before he was born were so frightening. We just kept listening to your CD's and using your relaxation techniques to try to stay as calm as possible, keep our heads clear and focus on the birth.
Our baby has had his first weigh this week at two and a half weeks old and he had put on 500g since we left hospital a week and a half ago - he is certainly playing catch ups.
